Heirloom Buttercrunch Lettuce Planting Instructions
Sow seeds directly in early spring or fall. Plant 1/8 inch below the surface of the soil and 8 to 12 inches apart in rows spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.
For a continuous harvest, sow additional seeds every 2 to 3 weeks if cutting full heads.
Lettuce is shallow-rooted, so it is essential to avoid disrupting the soil around the plants when you weed.
Keep the plants well-watered during dry periods, making sure that you water deeply at least once a week if there is not regular rainfall. Use a layer of compost or clean straw as mulch to help the soil retain moisture.
